Sea Alarm was invited by the ProBird group in Germany to attend and lecture on a volunteer course they were organising last April. The course took place in Rastede, in one of the wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centres in the North of Germany, and was attended by ca 20 new volunteers. The awareness course included a number of lectures on principles, methods and aspects of capture and rehabilitation of oiled birds and seals. Much attention was given to health and safety aspects of working with oiled animals and demonstrations were given of the bird washing process and the building of net bottom cages and pools.
The course was delivered in German because of the local audience, but is of a high standard and could also be delivered internationally.
