IOPC Fund Decides To Continue Sea Alarm’s Observership Status

IOPC Fund Decides to Continue Sea Alarm’s Observership Status

At the latest International Oil Pollution Compensation (IOPC) Funds meeting held in London from 4 – 7 November, the decision was taken to extend the Observership of Sea Alarm, as well as all other international NGOs. The Status gets reviewed every 3 years, and we are looking forward to working with the IOPC Fund over the course of our next term.

At the meeting, a working group of 5 countries was set up to assess the status of the NGOs as Observers. Their recommendation was to continue all Observers statuses, which was accepted in the plenary.

The IOPC Funds are an intergovernmental body that provides compensation for oil pollution damage resulting from oils spills from tankers which operate under the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). Sea Alarm was first welcomed as an Observer in 2017 and since then has provided technical expertise when requested for oiled wildlife preparedness and response.

Sea Alarm is grateful for the continuation of our term as an Observer and looks forward to continuing working together with the IOPC Funds.
