Services > Sea Alarm Conferences

Sea Alarm Conferences are organised if possible every two years in order to create a platform for discussions between marine wildlife rehabilitators, industry and governmental agencies in Europe. The Sea Alarm Conferences aim to produce a set of recommendations which are adopted as priorities in Sea Alarm's programme of activities. So far, three Conferences have been held. The Fourth Conference is scheduled to be held in Ostend (Belgium) in October of 2007.

2000 Sea Alarm Conference (1st)
The first Conference (sponsored by the Sea Alarm Foundation and the Seal Research and Rehabilitation Centre) was held in November in Pieterburen (NL). The objective was to bring together a representative group of European marine wildlife rehabilitators and discuss cooperation at a European level. It was adopted that Sea Alarm Foundation would be the executive on behalf of the group and further coordinate the development of a programme of action based on the ideas expressed at the meeting. The meeting formed a Task Force of 11 representatives which was charged with the development of a Programme of Action. See Publications for the report.

2001 Sea Alarm Conference (2nd)

This second Conference (sponsored by Shell-NL, the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Water Management and Public Works, the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature Management and Fisheries, and the Seal Research and Rehabilitation Centre) was held in November in The Hague (NL). The objective was to agree upon a common programme of action for the next few years. The Conference adopted the proposed Programme of Action (produced by the Task Force) and selected a number of priority actions and activities to be carried out by the Sea Alarm Board and the associated organisations in the network. See Publications for the report.
