Cooperation with OSRL/EARL
Although successful, this way of working did not provide enough financial stability to the organisation. In its search for more structural sources of funding, Sea Alarm approached the oil industry. The oil industry already had demonstrated a genuine interest in Sea Alarm's work and facilitating skills, and Sea Alarm's cooperation with IPIECA had already been fruitful and led to the publication of the IPIECA Guide to Oiled Wildlife Response Planning. Both IPIECA and ITOPF were strong supporters of dialogues between Sea Alarm and different members of the oil industry. From the beginning of these discussions, both BP and Total were championing structural cooperation with Sea Alarm, and leading an internal discussion with other companies in which form such cooperation could flourish, also securing the continuation of Sea Alarm's independent character.

In October 2005, Sea Alarm started a long term programme with Oil Spill Response and East Asia Response Limited (OSRL/EARL). This programme is focusing on many aspects of developing international preparedness. Not only does the programme allow Sea Alarm to further develop its unique role as an independent and impartial facilitator, but also develop together with OSRL/EARL activities, skills and assets that are beneficial not only to the oil industry, but also to other actors that are interested in oiled wildlife preparedness and response, such as national authorities and wildlife responders all over the world. Last but not least, the programme provides structural funding.

Support from the Maritime Industry
Sea Alarm was invited to become one of the beneficiaries of the first edition of the independent bike ride Tour Pour La Mer in 2006, a fundraising event that was organised by the Maritime Industry (Intertanko, Trade Winds). The successful ride raised a considerable amount of money for Sea Alarm, which was provided as a gift. Sea Alarm's Board has earmarked this gift as an internal stimulation fund for European oiled wildlife preparedness and response.

Projects
Sea Alarm has continued to work on projects. Over the last few years, Sea Alarm has partnered in several projects that were co-funded by the European Commission.
